EAGLE SEARCH LOGO
Logo designed for the Florida Gulf Coast University Library's new digital system. Eagle Search is an integrated library system (ILS) implemented to make the sharing of resources and materials easier both internally and amongst all of Florida's 28 colleges and 12 universities. A search engine essentially, for the library's databases. (This design was used for FGCU's system specifically.)

Design Process

I started by breaking down the name of the brand (service) and brainstorming visual symbols that would represent that name. For Eagle, I knew I wanted to incorporate wings into the design and for Search I settled on a classic search engine magnifying glass or books. As you can see by my sketches, I went through various iterations incorporating these elements. The final was a very simple, almost minimalist, design that works well in various sizes, and clearly visually conveys what the Eagle Search system offers.
Shown are also various color variations. The FGCU brand guidelines did present a limitation on the color palette that could be used. I had to slightly adjust my original design to fit these requirements, but keeping the same concept of a light colored glass to contrast the dark wings. As well as the small reflection in the glass being the same color as the wings, anchors the two elements (the glass & wings) together and makes the logo appear whole. The client ended up going with color palette #2, slightly different from the one I've chosen to display in this portfolio, which was my personal favorite.
